Looking to become a Paramedic or Firefighter - The EMR program is the first step in the EMS Field.

The Emergency Medical Responder program is designed as the entry-level program for the Prehospital Profession. 

 Emergency Medical Responders provide a service in an environment requiring special skills and knowledge and serve as liaisons with other emergency services.  This course provides an introduction to these concepts. 

This  EMR Program is competency based with  Students assuming the greater responsibility for their own learning.   As an EMR student you will be motivated and organized in order to meet the objectives of the program in the designated time frame.  The EMR Program  is designed to provide the student with the basics of prehospital care. 

Students are given the opportunity to learn and apply new pre-hospital skills in practical based scenarios.  Flatline Response utilizes a full range of equipment from bandages to a full time on-site  ambulance to re-enforce your new skills.  You will become confident with your new skills in  real life situations. 

All students admitted to the Flatline Response Prehospital Programs program are expected to maintain the highest personal standards of conduct consistent with the professional standards of the profession.  Any information indicating that such standards are not maintained is subject to review and may result in a recommendation to the College for dismissal from the program.

 Who should take the EMR Program?

You have a take-charge personality. No matter how stressful the situation, you are calm, cool, and collected. You are a perfect candidate for emergency medical training

What are the pre-requisites for the EMR Program? 

  • Minimum age - 18 years old.
  • Current Standard First and C.P.R. certification --Health Care Provider Level within the past 6 months - (no other level will be accepted)
  • Complete application package
  • A high level of reading comprehension, and written and oral communication skills.

 How do I Register for EMR Program?

 All students must complete the  registration package.  Registration package must include:

·         Completed application

·         Current Standard Firstaid Program with Health Care Provider CPR (within 6 months)

·         Tuition payment

 

Submit your application package and course course fees.   All course fees and pre-requisites must accompany all refresher applications.

 

Flatline Response may contact you through email, telephone or regular mail.  It is the responsibility of the applicant to notify the College of any changes to personal information or to update the information with the College.  Correspondence that is returned undeliverable may result in the application being withdrawn.

What is the Tuition?

Tuition includes required textbook.

 EMR Tuition                       $1,025.00  + GST

Includes and $150.00  non refundable registration fee.

 Workbook, Study Syllabus, Practice Test Bank, Anatomy & Physiology & Medical Terminology books These items can be purchased at time of registration or throughout the course of your studies

 Is there a Course Pre-Study component?

All Flatline Response EMS Programs include a Pre-Study Component.   The Pre-Study begins at the close of registration is the first day of your program.  The pre-study assignments must be completed prior to the first skill day.   You will b required to hand in the assignment on the first day of skill practice.

How will I be graded?

There will be 2 Domain written Exams, 1 final course exam and Practical Skill Exams.  A grade of 80% is required on all course assessments.

Students are assessed by observing their performance in conditions similar to those in an occupational setting.  Those items you learn and practice in the class days and from the modules are things that a good EMR must have a working knowledge and understanding of in order to provide the proper and effective patient care.

 Students are given the opportunity to learn and apply new pre-hospital skills in practical based scenarios.  Flatline Response utilizes a full range of equipment from bandages to a full time on-site  ambulance to re-enforce your new skills.  You will become confident with your new skills in  real life situations.

 What should I bring to Class?

Please bring your Pre-Study Workbook,  textbooks, a notebook, pens, pencils etc.  There will be lunch and breaks.  There are a number of places for lunch close by.   There is a lunch room with a fridge and microwave for student use.  This link will take you to facility information. General Program Information - directions, restaurants, coffee shops, etc.

Do I  need a uniform?

Appropriate attire is required for all class days.

 

·         Minimal jewelry/piercings

·         Long Pants, dark color

·         Closed toed shoes/boots NO sandals

·         Shirts/t-shirts dark color– no sleeveless, no tank tops, skirts, shorts, . 

 

EMS Uniforms and clothing can be purchased at the school

At the Conclusion of the Course

As a graduate of the Flatline Response Inc. EMR Program, you are eligible to complete the Provincial Registration Examination to become registered as an Emergency Medical Responder with the Alberta College of Paramedics and to work in the province of Alberta.

Licenses and Certifications

Certification and licensure are both required at all levels of training. Alberta College of Paramedics administers all  Certification and Registration exams separately for each level of training and registration is required for provincial licensure at all levels.  Completion of an authorized training course prepares students to complete the provincial  registry examination. 

Emergency Medical Responder Certification is one of the prerequisites for the Emergency Medical Technician program.

 You are responsible to study the theory for this program on your own time. 

 It is important for you to:

  • Be prepared for all practical skill class days
  • Complete all your prestudy for each domain
  • Complete all workbook assignments
  • Be prepared for your exams
  • Be familiar with all the program and exam policies and procedures
